Wedding

‘And now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.’  1 Corinthians 13:13

A wedding is an important day for a couple, and the coming together of a man and woman in marriage is a joyous day for them, their families and friends.

We would love to talk to you about your wedding plans, and help you as you plan your special day as you take these first steps toward making a lifelong commitment to one another.

We understand that there are many things to be done in preparation, and we are here to help you plan your happy day in church.

We are able to offer wedding services in all four of our parish churches (we cannot perform wedding ceremonies at St Mary’s).

If you would like to know more about having your wedding in church, then please start by completing the contact form and choose booking a wedding – you can access the form by clicking here we will then be in touch to arrange to meet you.

Even if you live outside of the parish, It is very likely that we will still be able to help, and we can discuss this when we meet.

Additionally, if you or your partner has been divorced then we will still consider your request, so please contact us

How we can help

As ‘Clerks in Holy Orders’ Church of England clergy are legal registrars in our own right, which means that we deal with everything from the legal to the ceremonial when we plan for your happy day.

Once you have contacted us, one of our clergy will be in touch to arrange the first meeting. This will often happen within a week or two of the enquiry so that we can book the service into the church and clergy diaries.

One of the first things we need to do is check that you are who you say you are. This is a legal requirement and we will ask you to bring identification with you. Ideally this will be your passports, but don’t worry of you don’t have a passport, we will talk to you about what other forms of identification are acceptable.

In the event that you or the one you are marrying has been divorced, this is normally not a problem, however we will need to have a conversation with you about the situation before we proceed. We appreciate its never comfortable to talk about these situations, and we will make it as easy as we can for you and your partner.

We will advise you on any things that you will need to do, and will give you as much help and advice as you need.

Once we’ve completed the legal forms, we get to the fun bit! Starting to plan your wedding and the member of clergy will guide you through the process, and talk you through the different choices you need to make together, as well as explaining what kinds of things to expect on the day.

Through the preparations, you will meet with the member of the clergy who will be marrying you, and will be happy to help you with any questions or challenges you have.

Congratulations and we are looking forward to helping you plan the day.
