Introduction
Each year the Church of England sets the fees centrally for a number of different functions of the Church, including those services which cover life events. While the full list is available at the bottom of this page, we have extrapolated those fees which are used most frequently.
When you book in one of these services we will talk through the statutory fees which are listed here along with any additional optional fees such as an organist, heating (specific times of the year), Producing Orders of Service etc. If you are ever unsure, do ask questions so that you understand how the fees has been calculated.
Baptism
There are no associated fees with this type of service, as we see Baptism as a free gift from God to his people. The church bears all the costs associated with this service. We will put a collection plate out as you leave, so that if anyone wishes to support the work and ministry of the church they can do so.
Weddings
There are two types of costs associated with Weddings.
The first is if you are getting married with us:
2024 | 2025 | |
Cost of the Service | £531 | £544 |
Reading of Banns | £ 36 | £ 37 |
Total | £567 | £581 |
In addition to these are the church optional costs, and when we meet to discuss your happy day, we will also discuss what extras you would like us to provide.
The second is if you live within the parish, but you are getting married in a different church. As your Parish church will still be legally required to read your banns for you and the following charges apply:
2024 | 2025 | |
Reading of the Banns | £36 | £37 |
Issue of a Certificate of Banns | £18 | £19 |
Total | £54 | £56 |
After the Banns have been read, we will issue you with the certificate which you will need to hand to the priest marrying you, as this forms part of the legal paperwork.
Funerals
Whilst there are a number of choices that are made when a funeral takes place, and the full fee table takes these into account, for the majority of the time, there are three standard fees that we use for most of these services:
Funeral in Church followed by burial in a churchyard
2024 | 2025 | |
Service in Church | £228 | £234 |
Burial in Churchyard | £366 | £375 |
Total | £594* | £609* |
*These figure do not include the cost of the Gravedigger
Funeral in church followed by interment in a municipal cemetery or committal at the crematorium
2024 | 2025 | |
Service in Church | £228 | £234 |
Burial in Cemetery or Cremation | £ 34 | £ 35 |
Total | £262* | £269* |
*These figure do not include the cost of the Gravedigger
Funeral at the crematorium
2024 | 2025 | |
Service in Crematorium | £228 | £234 |
Total | £228 | £234 |
Interment of Ashes
2024 | 2025 | |
Interment | £192 | £198 |
Total | £192* | £198* |
*These figure do not include the cost of the Gravedigger, and there are strict rules regarding the eligibility of interring Ashes into a Churchyard.
These are all the standard charges, again if the service is in church then there will be optional additional fees such as the Organist and the Verger and dependent on the time of the year whether heating is required.
We are also able to provide Orders of Service for you, at a reasonable cost, and we will discuss these options with you.
Churchyards
Church of England Churchyards are governed through the Chancellor of the Diocese Regulations. These clearly say what is and is not allowed to happen within our churchyards. Experience has taught us that BEFORE making any decisions with a stonemason, we urge you strongly to contact the Vicar to have a conversation, to ensure that what you are asking for is within his authority to authorise, so as not to cause any undue stress.
Searches in Parish Registers
Occasionally people have need of information from the parish registers, we are happy to help with this, however there are fees involved in doing this work which are:
